In order to contribute to the transformation of food systems and the improvement of food security initiatives in Africa, the African Agricultural Leadership Institute (AALI) has established a memorandum of understanding with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to build on each other’s achievements and consolidate experience.
This collaboration agreement, signed on February 1, 2024, by AALI President, Dr. Nteranya Sanginga, and IITA Director General, Dr. Siméon Ehui, sets the stage for a strengthened collaboration aimed at meeting the challenges of food security on the African continent. In fact, AALI, focusing on leadership, sustainable development, and resilient food systems in Africa, has rapidly established its position as one of the key players in the transformation of African agriculture. AALI’s work consists of reinvigorating the agricultural paradigm in Africa through the voice and perspectives carried by African professionals for much more appropriate responses to the needs and context of the continent. The institute places particular emphasis on the apprehension and practice of agriculture as a business activity and not simply a development project by government leaders, young people, and small-scale producers.
Dr. Sanginga, who is also the former Director General of IITA, highlighted the importance of strengthening this partnership for the future of African agriculture, emphasizing the potential for collaboration between professionals in the sector to meet current and future challenges.
Through this collaboration, AALI and IITA are committed to working together to develop innovative solutions, build the capacity of local players, facilitate resource sharing and knowledge transfer, and promote the sustainability of food systems in Africa. This strategic partnership marks an important step in efforts to combat food insecurity and promote sustainable agricultural development on the African continent
