AALI at Canadian Week in Kinshasa: Strengthening Partnerships for Innovative and Inclusive Agriculture

The African Agricultural Leadership Institute (AALI) participated in the 4th edition of “Semaine canadienne,” held in Kinshasa from April 14 to 15, 2026, and organized by the Amanivic consulting firm in collaboration with Canadian and African companies and organizations. The event served as a strategic platform for dialogue and advocacy on the development of agricultural value chains, with a strong focus on sustainable and innovative production systems adapted to local realities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The various sessions highlighted practical approaches to transforming the agricultural sector, emphasizing value chain structuring, improved productivity, and the creation of local added value. In this context, the experience of reviving the wheat sector in Lubero, implemented by AALI in partnership with the Virunga Foundation under the Green Corridor project, was presented as an integrated model. This model covers the entire value chain, from agricultural production to processing and commercialization.

During his presentation, Dr. Mitima, Director of Agribusiness Partnerships at AALI, emphasized two key areas considered essential for strengthening investment and agribusiness opportunities in the DRC. The first is the exchange and transfer of agricultural technologies, particularly improved inputs and farming materials. The second focuses on local processing of agricultural products, the promotion of value addition, and the structured development of distribution chains.

This participation also opens opportunities for collaboration with Canadian companies, particularly in wheat seed development, oilseed crops, and the development of resilient agricultural systems.
